BOURNEMOUTH 0-1 LIVERPOOL

45: And we’re back up and running at the Vitality Stadium. I’m hopeful we’ll see a little more energy and quality in the second half. No changes for either side.

Twitter round-up

James: So a goalkeeper knees a player in the chest – no foul. Imagine if that was an outfield player…

Rory: No daylight between Salah and last defender. Almost impossible to spot in real time. What’s happened to giving the attacker the benefit of the doubt? Marginally off but not a shocker!

Ash: So often in the past City, Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal get the big decisions. Liverpool get one and they’re all up in arms. Wrong decision but if Begovic hadn’t made the error wouldn’t have mattered.

Colin: Without Jordan Henderson to drag them down to a sideways walking pace – Liverpool’s build up play is so much quicker and more dangerous!

BOURNEMOUTH 0-1 LIVERPOOL

HT: Liverpool are top of the Premier League thanks to Mohamed Salah’s opener. It’s not lived up to the billing of the two most attacking sides in the league – I suppose the wet and blustery conditions aren’t helping. Reds ahead at the break.

45: Two minutes of additional time.

44: David Brooks guilty of trying to force things when attempting to sidestep James Milner and Fabinho.

Alisson then bizarrely thinks he’s not able to catch a shanked clearance so decides to fly into the challenge with his knees up on King inside the area. Lee Mason gives the goalkeeper the benefit of the doubt.

41: Bournemouth still applying pressure but they’ve not created anything clear-cut. They’re passing it around more sharply and the noise levels have increased…

38:Bournemouth win a corner and Nathan Ake rises like a salmon to challenge Alisson in the air, but the Brazilian stopper punches it high and Stanislas is penalised for offside. Liverpool have started to drop off a fraction and the Cherries don’t need a second invitation to attack.

35: A better spell for the Cherries. A Fraser corner falls to Ake at the back post, but he can’t quite get the shot away from close range. Suspicion that Van Dijk used his elbow on Francis but Mason doesn’t spot it.

33: Well there’s no other way of putting it – Bournemouth have been really poor today. No pace, passes are going missing and they aren’t pressuring their opponents. They need to find their spark quickly because a second would kill them.

30: Mohamed Salah has now scored the opening goal of the game on seven occasions in the Premier League this season, at least two more times than any other player.

29: The Cherries have responded quite well with more possession – but Alisson still hasn’t been properly tested since Mohamed Salah’s opener. Eddie Howe’s side are lacking a bit of guile in the final third with Callum Wilson out injured.

BOURNEMOUTH 0-1 LIVERPOOL | SALAH

26: Where on earth do we start? Mohamed Salah has given Liverpool the lead in rather suspicious circumstances.

Asmir Begovic can’t deal with Roberto Firmino’s long-ranger and simply parries the swerving effort to Salah, who gratefully follows up and converts.

Was the Egyptian offside? You bet. VAR would have overturned that goal. Jurgen Klopp doesn’t care though – his side have leapfrogged Manchester City to the top of the league.

24:These Bournemouth fans aren’t happy with referee Lee Mason, who doesn’t book Fabinho for a clumsy sliding challenge.

Save!First moment ion real quality from the Cherries with Stanislas playing a reverse pass through to Brooks, whose drilled effort is parried wide by the alert Alisson.

23: Josh King beats his man and forces an opening, but the shot is wide of Alisson’s post.

20:  “More Inho than Fab,” says Martin Tyler on Sky Sports. Where does he think of these EXCELLENT jokes?!

Mohamed Salah nips behind Francis down the left and cuts the ball back to Fabinho, who fires a terrible effort that receives a fortunate deflection.

The Cherries simply can’t clear their lines and allow Robertson the freedom of the left flank to find Salah, who can’t bundle the ball beyond Asmir Begovic.

19:Liverpool have enjoyed 74 percent possession. I suppose Bournemouth won’t mind too much – they only had 33 percent against Huddersfield on Tuesday! No chances to mention.

16: Another Bournemouth booking, this time for Lerma, who barely touched Fabinho when challenging for the ball. A bit unlucky there. Still, better a booking than another phenomenal own goal, eh?

13: Play to the whistle lads! Bournemouth think Mohamed Salah is offside so stop playing and Nathan Ake uses his hand to block the through ball. He’s booked and Liverpool have themselves a dangerous free-kick just outside the penalty area.

Xherdan Shaqiri steps up… Charlie Daniels blocks it in the wall and the subsequent corner is cleared.

10:We’ve just hot the ten-minute mark and Jurgen Klopp will be happy with the start his side have made. Eddie Howe might be a touched concerned with how passive his team are in the opening stages. They’ve not put much pressure on the ball.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool: Premier League LIVE score, goals and updates

8: Coming to a meme near you is Naby Keita, who has just successfully nutmegged TWO Bournemouth players in the space of 20 seconds. The midfielder put in a shift against Burnley on Wednesday and has started brightly here at the Vitality Stadium.

5: Naby Keita gets a nasty blow early when going in for a 50/50 header. Josh King then roughs up Virgil Van Dijk with a physical barge. Just letting the Dutchman he won’t be having a comfortable afternoon.

3: Any thoughts on Liverpool’s grey away kit? Not taken with it myself. Shades of Manchester United 1996…

Liverpool have started on the front-foot with Mohamed Salah nearly heading a James Milner cross towards goal but he’s climbed over Nathan Ake in the process.

BOURNEMOUTH 0-0 LIVERPOOL

1: And we’re underway at a chilly, overcast Vitality Stadium. Will Bournemouth still be a threat without Callum Wilson? Will Liverpool be able to cope with the number/intensity of fixtures? We’re about to find out.

Twitter round-up

Dr Phillips: Fingers crossed that Bournemouth can be Liverpool’s kryptonite!

Rubin: Quite happy with the rotation. Hope that we hammer in a few quicks goals and make three changes!

Gaz: Think James Milner will do a better than expected job at right-back today! 500 not out. Consummate pro. Let’s get 3 points.

Dr Phillips… are you a real doctor? Please don’t be prescribing kryptonite to anyone…

‘He would have played goalkeeper’

12:20: Jurgen Klopp is in absolutely no doubt that James Milner is ready to play at right-back ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold. He says the midfielder’s experience will see him through and that the Yorkshireman would play in goal to achieve his 500th Premier League appearance.

The title…

12:15: Liverpool vs Manchester City: It’s becoming a two-team title race, right? But could the festival fixtures decide our 2018/2019 champions?

Liverpool will hope to keep the pressure on City prior to their January 3 clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea host City today seeking to end the holders’ undefeated start and respond from their first competitive losses of the season – City also beat Chelsea in the Community Shield.

City, whose last Premier League defeat came in April’s Manchester derby, thereafter face Everton (H), Crystal Palace (H), Leicester (A) and Southampton (A). Liverpool play at Bournemouth, followed by games with Manchester United (H), Wolves (A), Newcastle (H) and Arsenal (H) before the end of 2018.

Top punditry

12:10: Graeme Souness is on top form this afternoon. Having already declared himself a Bournemouth resident – he continued to say that he’s bumped into Josh King in the local Waitrose.

These Sky Sports subscribers really are being spoiled…

City Rattled?

12:05: Errr, not really says Jurgen Klopp.

Manchester City have won 13 of their 15 matches – Liverpool’s best start to a season in their history has seen them win 12 – and already scored 15 more goals than their fellow unbeaten rivals.

“I don’t think Manchester City feel pressure! They don’t look like they do,” said Klopp.

“That’s not the first target anyway, the first target is to try to perform on the highest level, because it’s needed at Bournemouth. Eddie is doing a fantastic job there, and it will be difficult enough.”

Twitter round-up

Jack: Simon Mignolet’s just come out for the warm up at the vitality and clapped the Bournemouth fans in the south stand thinking they were Liverpool. Can’t even clap and not make a mistake.

Stuart: Am I the only one thinking we’re gonna run riot with this midfield today?

Joe: James Milner’s 500th Premier League appearance today. A superb player. Made his debut in 2002 when the Premier League (Ship back then) was yet to be supersized by oil money and billionaire investors. A credit he’s stuck around over 16 years.

James Milner explanation

11:55: James Milner’s 500th Premier League appearance today… and he gets the joy of starting at right-back.

I’ll allow Jurgen Klopp to explain: “It’s no problem. I thought it could be a problem, but obviously he would have even played goalkeeper in game number 500!

“We need to flexible, all of us, in this period – different positions, different jobs to do in the games. But it’s only slightly different and Millie knows it from his time at left-back.

“We are a very offensive-orientated team, which means he is very often in a comfortable area. With his experience, and especially against Bournemouth with the counter-attack, you need all the defensive skills as well. Fraser, Brooks, Stanislas or whoever are all nice and speedy, King as well.

“It’s a job to do, but it’s nice to be part of the 500th Premier League game of Millie.”

Willlssssoooonnnn!!!!

11:53: Eddie Howe explains the absence of Wilson: “Callum has a slight hamstring issue, which we don’t think is too bad but he misses this week. It’s a big blow but Junior comes in, who is a very good player and will give us a lot of quality.”

Note to self – watch Cast Away again over Christmas…

Unlucky, Joe

11:50: Joe Gomez was unlucky to suffer a broken leg against Burnley.

The England international was substituted during the 3-1 victory at Turf Moor following a robust tackle from Burnley’s Ben Mee and will miss up to six weeks of action with a fracture to the lower left leg.

And Klopp isn’t best pleased.

“I really appreciate teams around and tactical things but being aggressive in football means being ready to hurt yourself and not the opponent,” Klopp said.

“Nobody wants to deny sliding tackles, that’s absolutely part of the game but in the right moment. Gomez’s injury was unlucky. The challenge against Joe a moment before that, in a fast situation, in our own half, there was no reason for that.”

Team news – Liverpool

11:45: No messing around from Jurgen Klopp. The German tactician has made FIVE changes for the side who beat Burnley during the week.

Alberto Moreno and Joe Gomez drop out of the side for different reasons with Andrew Robertson returning to the side.

James Milner starts at right-back today – confirming his status as the ultimate utility player.

Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge are replaced by Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Jordan Henderson also drops to the bench with Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum the midfield pairing.

Team news – Bournemouth

11:40: OK, Eddie Howe and Callum Wilson are now officially the enemy of most fantasy football managers for keeping this injury secret.

The Cherries top scorer is sidelined – so Bournemouth bring in Junior Stanislas. Andrew Surman also replaces Lewis Cook, who is likely to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

Today’s fixtures

11:35: It’s a deceptively BIG day of Premier League fixtures. And obviously I’ve capped the word ‘big’ to emphasise that… because I’m a professional.

Arsenal vs Huddersfield, Burnley vs Brighton, Cardiff vs Southampton, Manchester United vs Fulham, West Ham vs Fulham, Chelsea vs Manchester City, Leicester vs Tottenham.

The top six are in action because of European commitments next week – and Liverpool should see this as a massive opportunity with City and Chelsea guaranteed to take points off each other.

But Manchester City could emphasise their dominance if they pick up three points against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge without the injured Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero.

Far from being title rivals, City go into the game with a 10-point advantage over the Blues, and another win would surely strike a terminal blow to Maurizio Sarri’s men on the back of their midweek defeat at Wolves.

Shorn (word of the day calendar) of arguably their two best players, a win would see City make another powerful statement.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool

11:30: And here come the sides. Any surprises? A few. A quick glance tells me that Callum Wilson is out injured! Terrible news for fantasy football teams up and down the land.

Bournemouth XI: Begovic, Francis, Cook, Ake, Daniels, Lerma, Surman, Brooks, Stanislas, Fraser, King.

Subs: Boruc, Pugh, Mousset, Ibe, Defoe, Rico, Mings.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Robertson, Milner, Matip, Van Dijk, Fabinho, Keita, Wijnaldum, Shaqiri, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Henderson, Lallana, Mane, Sturridge, Origi.

The fear…

11:27: Wait a minute. Jordon Ibe could feature against his former club today – and we all know the laws of football dictate that a player will ALWAYS score against his former employers.

Now if that’s not enough to convince you… It’s also his birthday today!

Twitter round-up

Far: Big game for Liverpool today! Chance to go top and put some pressure on Manchester City. I’m predicting 2-1 to Liverpool but it won’t be a cakewalk. Bring the three points home lads!

Steven: It’s hard to believe Virgil Van Dijk only joined in January. Looks like he’s been there years. Pure hard work and commitment to the cause. Come on RedMen, let’s get another three points in the bag today!

Tom: My head says Liverpool to win, but I really fancy the Cherries to get something against a big team for a change.

Morning…

11:20: Hello everyone and welcome to another intoxicating, exhilarating, invigorating and electrifying weekend of Premier League football…

My manager said that I should be more enthusiastic… did it work?

Anyway, another pivotal weekend in the Premier League has arrived with Manchester City looking to cement their status at the top and their rivals limbering up for matches they hardly dare lose.

Liverpool are the most prominent of those rivals and will need to collect maximum points against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this afternoon.

But it ain’t gonna be easy.

The Reds have had an incredibly busy week with a Merseyside derby and a 520-mile round trip to Burnley and the south coast under their belts.

They also have their crucial Champions League showdown with Napoli on Tuesday AND a heated clash with Manchester United next weekend.

No wonder Alberto Moreno got some minutes… let’s have those line-ups!

BOURNEMOUTH vs LIVERPOOL

Bournemouth will be without England midfielder Lewis Cook for the rest of the season because of a serious knee injury as they prepare for the Premier League match against Liverpool. Midfielder Dan Gosling will also miss the game at the Vitality Stadium with his own knee problem. Defender Adam Smith (knee) continues his rehabilitation.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has a growing number of injuries to contend with. Forwards Sadio Mane (foot) and Dominic Solanke (groin), defenders Dejan Lovren (concussion), Joe Gomez (broken leg) and Nathaniel Clyne (muscle) are all sidelined, in addition to long-term absentees Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhian Brewster (both knee). However, left-back Andy Robertson returns to the squad having been rested for the midweek win at Burnley.
