With the Giants 2018 season running on fumes, there was optimism abound ahead of their matchup against division rival Washington. With Alex Smith and Colt McCoy nursing major leg injuries, Mark Sanchez would be leading Washington into battle. In addition, wide receiver Odell Beckham would renew his rivalry with cornerback Josh Norman and a pass defense that has declined since a terrific start to the season.
In some major news, the Giants will be without Beckham, who did not travel with the team for Sunday’s game as he is still fighting a quad injury.
WOH. From Giants: WR Odell Beckham Jr. has been downgraded to out for the Giants’ game tomorrow at Washington. Beckham did not accompany the team on the trip. (!!!!!!) going on WFAN now— Pat Leonard (@PLeonardNYDN) December 8, 2018
Beckham has recorded 77 catches, 1,052 yards, and six touchdowns this season. These numbers are even more impressive considering he is coming off of a serious ankle injury he suffered last season and the fact he plays in a limited passing offense.
Beckham had 35 yards receiving and a touchdown catch last week against the Bears, as well as a 49-yard bomb throwing the ball.
Russell Shepard, Sterling Shepard, and Corey Coleman will likely pick up most of the slack in Beckham’s absence. An already toothless offense outside of Saquon Barkley got even less scary with Beckham out.
