Japanase figure skater Rika Kihira captures gold at Grand Prix Final

Japan’s Rika Kihira took home the women’s title at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Vancouver on Saturday.

Teenage Japanese figure skater Rika Kihira won gold at the Grand Prix Final in Vancouver.

The 16-year-old posted a combined score of 233.12 on Saturday, despite stumbling on a jump in her free skate.

Kihira edged out reigning Olympic champion Alina Zagitova of Russia for the win. Zagitova, who is also 16, tallied 226.53 points while her teammate Elizaveta Tuktamysheva took third with a score of 215.32.

The women’s competition was made up entirely of skaters from Japan and Russia.

On Friday, American Nathan Chen took gold in the men’s event while Canada’s Keegan Messing placed fifth.

Thirteen-year-old Stephen Gogolev of Toronto won the junior men’s event.
