Expect changes from Mourinho
When Wednesday night’s team sheet dropped, you feared the worst.
Jose Mourinho made seven changes and three of his most expensive signings – Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Fred- were nowhere to be seen in that starting line-up.
Encouragingly, though, United played with heart and those who came in from the cold, like Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly, performed admirably.
But United are no closer to a settled team and formula; Mourinho has made 18 changes to his starting line-up in the last three games when, usually, his best teams pick themselves in December.
Even if Chris Smalling et al play through the pain barrier again, it would not be a surprise if Mourinho again shuffled his pack.
Ashley Young is available after serving a one-match ban while Luke Shaw was with the squad at the team hotel so there could be changes at full-back. Bailly may sit this one out so United could shift to four at the back again.
With Anthony Martial potentially missing out, it would be a huge call if Mourinho again benched Pogba and Lukaku.
