World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma has is performing at Place des Arts today.
No, the free concert is not in one of the venue’s symphony halls — it’s in the Metro station.
A statement on the Chinese-American musician’s Facebook page says the show will explore “connections and disconnections in contemporary lives.”
The concert is expected to begin around 1:30 p.m. and there is space for 300 people to watch.
Société de transport de Montréal spokesperson Philippe Déry says the subway stations often draw strong busking talent, but rarely anyone of Ma’s level of fame.
The 63-year-old cellist’s concert is part of what his website calls a “day of action” that will explore the topic of culture and its role in humanizing technology.
The concert will also be live-streamed on the STM’s Facebook page.
