'Extensive damage': Fire destroys Brampton home, leaves woman hospitalized

Brampton firefighters are investigating a blaze that destroyed a home Sunday night (Jan. 13) and left a woman in hospital.

The fire on Madison Street, in the area of North Park Drive and Maitland Street in Brampton, broke out just after 5:30 p.m.

“Upon arrival crews encountered smoke and fire conditions,” Brampton Fire and Emergency Services said in a tweet.

The family leaving inside made it out, but not before a woman was taken to hospital by Peel Region Paramedics suffering from smoke inhalation.

Fire officials said the family was alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms.

There is no word so far as to what caused the fire, but it has been extinguished.
