Dropkick Murphys' Ken Casey Bloodied In Altercation With Fan

Ken Casey got into a scuffle at a Dropkick Murphys show, but he did not manage to land a patented dropkick.

The band’s bassist and singer was bloodied up in a physical confrontation with a fan at Friday’s St. Patrick’s Day show at Boston’s House of Blues.

Casey, 49, handed his microphone to a fan to sing along, according to TMZ. When the concertgoer refused to return the mic things escalated. Casey pleaded with the fan to relinquish the microphone before knuckling up.

Blood was drawn from Casey’s head during the fight and security managed to pull the musician back onstage shortly after. Nevertheless, Casey zipped past security and leapt into the crowd to continue brawling. The fan was eventually escorted out of the venue and the band continued with their set.

That does not seem the be the whole story. Dropkick Murphys’ rep told Billboard Casey was attempting to defend a woman who was being elbowed by the aggressive fan.

“Ken could see the guy wasn’t going to stop and that security was having a hard time getting to him, so he decided to handle it himself,” a source close to the band elaborated. “Ken is not afraid to stand up to anyone who is ruining the show for someone else and the band has been clear that they won’t tolerate abusive behaviour.”

“So, we’ve been doing this for a number of years, and have been here for 21 of those years, this is not new,” frontman Al Barr said, per NME. “I haven’t seen the old man bleed, but this is not new. See, when we invite you guys to come to one of our shows, it’s like we’re saying, ‘Come to our house,’ and when someone disrespects us, it’s like you’re disrespecting us in our own house. This is our house!”

What better day to brawl at a Celtic punk concert than on St. Patrick’s Day in Boston? The Fighting Irish came out in full strength it seems.
